I do quite a lot of curtain and blind fitting, but so far I didn’t have a blog post about this kind of a job for some reason. So here we go and while I worked on this post, I decided that we can turn this into a “how to” post, so you can followContinue reading “How to: curtains and blinds”

Handrail, bannister and spindles. A lot of spindles
It was a straight forward two day job to refresh a staircase and landing by re-painting the handrail, bannister and the spindles. A lot of spindles. Courtesy of another decorating professional I had to start with some heavy duty degreasing as the previous painter used an outdoor paint on the bannister which started peeling off fromContinue reading “Handrail, bannister and spindles. Small fencing project
I enjoyed this bit of work a lot, as I was working in late November but sheltered from the wind and rain so for a change I didn’t turn into an ice cube by the end of the job. When the customer bought their house, there was this small bit of fencing between their garageContinue reading “Small fencing project”
Bathroom grouting
This was just a quick grout repair in the Dringhouses area in York a couple of days ago. The existing grouting started to come out over the years and the client wanted to patch it up the best we could, to make sure water doesn’t get under the tiles causing more damage. So I startedContinue reading “Bathroom grouting”
Stepping stones + Lord of the rings
A recently finished a three day job in Acomb, York. The customer needed some dry access for his sheds and back of his garden, but didn’t want a full patio, just some sunken stepping stones. It was hard graft but it was also quite enjoyable as I was listening The lord of the Rings audiobookContinue reading “Stepping stones + Lord of the rings”
Door frame repair & paint
This was a tricky job, but for not the reason I thought at first. This was an old wooden entrance door frame and on the bottom of it, the wood started to decay. The door threshold (or sill if you like) was in the worst shape, as the previous installer used pine wood which turnedContinue reading “Door frame repair & paint”
Bathroom beading
One of my regular customer had a new non-slip vinyl bathroom floor fitted earlier this year, but the edges were not finished, we had to find a solution. To start with I had to find the right trims for the floor which were the right colour (anthracite grey in this case) and the right width.Continue reading “Bathroom beading”
Wall repair and door step
This was the follow up work for the pointing job I did in Clifton, York earlier this year. Once the outside work was finished, the customer sprayed the whole front area with high quality water repellent to make sure there is no more water getting into the house through the front wall. After this weContinue reading “Wall repair and door step”
Chimney repair
This was a quick day job just outside of York on a farmhouse. The cement bed (flauching) was blown on top of the chimney stack and the top few courses of bricks of have seen better days as well. Even though it was a low chimney stack I hired a tower scaffold to access itContinue reading “Chimney repair”
Door handles
This was another straight forward job, changing a lot of internal door knobs for bedroom doors and two knobs with locks for the bathroom doors. I chose ERA door handle sets as they are a decent quality make and they have door handles with or without locks and they look identical. Some of the doorContinue reading “Door handles”
