Property maintenance

A few weeks back I met a lady who is managing several properties in York town centre. They are all used as Airbnb-s and they needed a bit of tlc before the start of the season.

There were various jobs to do, some really small, some of them bigger. I already made a post about the bathroom re-grouting project which part of the larger scale jobs. On the other hand there were several smaller jobs. I had to fix back some kitchen kickboards, fix some hooks and curtain rails, re-silicone parts of the bathrooms, change window seals, install window latches, bit of painting here and there and the list goes on.

The real challenge in this project was to keep everything on track. I had 6 flats with various jobs and limited availabilities (as some of them already had guest booked in), I normally had one day per flat. So I had to organize everything ready for that one day.

For example: one day I had to install an electric code lock on the entrance door, change some door handles, fix a toilet seat and re-do some silicone. The parts were supplied so this doesn’t sound that much really. However, upon arrival I realized that the code lock doesn’t match the night latch on the other side of the door and the bathroom door handles are wrong back set which meant I had to go and source all the right parts in order to complete the job. All of a sudden this became a much more hastily project.

I really enjoyed this project though as it was a different type of work each day. Ok, the grouting bit was not the most pleasant, but overall I had fun in this few days. We managed to tick off all the jobs from the to-do list but one, an electrical fault on an extractor which was beyond my electrical knowledge. And we already booked a few days for next winter time, when we re-model two of the bathrooms. Can’t wait!
