A very tall fence

Another recent job for one of my regular customer. He purchased the house not so long ago and now he is slowly turning his garden around to his liking. This time it was a bit of fencing on the agenda. His neighbour has an old modular concrete garage. You know the type, the one with pebble dash and most of times with an old asbestos roof. And the one which normally comes up for free (aka just help me to get rid of it) on Facebook marketplace. Understandably, the house owner didn’t like the look of this garage right next to his conservatory, so he wanted to build a fence. A very tall fence.

The previous owners of this house had similar idea about covering up the side of the pebble dash garage, as some fence posts were already in place. This made my job a lot simpler. I only had to erect one more post, but I also had to extend the other three posts with 60 cm upwards. I used stainless steel rods to extend the existing posts and I added some outdoor grip adhesive as well between surfaces. On day one, I measured everything, extended the old posts, set a new post, fixed gravel boards and started on the railings as well.

The second I started with the narrow gap between the new fence and the pebble dash garage. I laid some weed barrier and filled the gap about 50 mm layer of gravel. This is to make sure that once the fence is finished, no weed will grow in between the fence and the garage. After this, I finished off the railings and started to install the 2.4 meter tall feather boards. First on the short side and then the long one. This part of fencing normally goes super fast, but this time it was a bit slower as I was up and down on the ladder non stop. A few hours later I was finished with all the boards. Now I had to install the fence post caps and some panel caps to keep to water away from the cut ends of the posts and boards.

All in all this whole project took me two days, a lot of planning and measuring and a lot of climbing up and down on the ladder. The customer was really satisfied with the work and we already agreed on the next garden project.
