This was the follow up work for the pointing job I did in Clifton, York earlier this year. Once the outside work was finished, the customer sprayed the whole front area with high quality water repellent to make sure there is no more water getting into the house through the front wall. After this we waited 8 weeks to ensure that inside can dry out nicely. At this point on the inside all the water damaged plaster and board has been removed, just bare bricks showing.

The afternoon started with cutting away the carpet, which was folded over the door step inside and cleaning off surfaces. The old corner beads were still in place so I just had to use fast setting bonding (great product to work with!) to fill up the missing wall bits. The bonding coat was ready to plaster within 75 minutes from mixing which gave me just enough time to sort out the step inside.

I used a length of primed window sill as a step to replace the carpet. After carefully cutting it down to the right length and width I checked if it sits right on its place. After this I drilled two screwholes in it and marked on the floor as well. I used my hammer drill to make a few holes and fixed down the new step with two 5inch screws and some framing silicone to make sure it doesn’t wobble. As a last step I filled over the screw holes with a bit of wood filler.

Once I finished the step, the wall was ready to plaster. I mixed up a bit of top coat and within an hour the job was finished. I cleared away my gear and showed the finished job to the customer who were really satisfied with it.

This was a long project, involving indoor and outdoor work as well but we managed to make sure that no more water gets into to the house through the wall and repaired the water damaged plaster.
